Large drop earrings light up Emmys red carpet

By “The Pulse of Fashion”
The 63rd Emmy Awards on Sunday gave celebrities another occasion to show off their red carpet jewels, and most chose to accessorize with big, drop earrings and large, sometimes colorful cocktail rings.

“Big earrings were the call of the evening,” Michael O’Connor, jewelry style expert and celebrity stylist, says. “Jewelry is becoming larger in proposition, to keep up with ornamentation on gowns, and we saw that at the Emmys.”

Helena Krodel, director of media and special events at the Jewelry Information Center, said the red and black dresses worn on the red carpet gave celebrities solid palettes to work with for their jewelry.

“Tear-drop shaped earrings were big because people tend to wear fabulous, but not over-the-top, dresses to the awards,” she said. “A lot of the jewelry was stand-out.”

American Idol’s Paula Abdul (below) wore sapphire cabochon earrings with 484 diamonds ($68,500).

The Big Bang Theory’s Mayim Bialik (below) donned 18-karat white gold and diamond earrings ($26,400).

Dancing with the Stars co-host Brooke Burke accessorized with a 72-carat rough diamond ring (below) in 18-karat white gold with micro pavé diamond accents ($180,000).

Modern Family’s Sofia Vergara (below) wore 18-karat white and rose gold diamonds earrings ($12,800) to an Emmy nominee reception, held Sept. 16 in Hollywood.

Dancing with the Stars judge Carrie Ann Inaba chose a Diamond Iceberg ring (below, $18,000).

Access Hollywood’s Shaun Robinson sparkled in black and white diamond earrings with blue topaz (below, $8,275).

Modern Family’s Sarah Hyland wore blackened pink sapphire and tourmaline cocktail ring (below, $14,500) to a pre-Emmys party on Sept. 16 in Hollywood.

Modern Family’s Julie Bowen accessorized with ear-shaped black and white diamond and platinum earrings (below, $50,000).

Gwyneth Paltrow, who appears on Glee, wore Neil Lane’s large emerald cut 7-carat black diamond and platinum drop earrings (below, $50,000).

“The interesting thing is that in years past, people got the big look by stacking,” O’Connor said, “but it seems like people have stopped doing that.”

Pantone Fashion Color Report Fall 2011

By “The Pulse of Fashion”

The colors of Chinese opera and the sepia tones of old Hollywood are among Pantone’s inspirations for Fall 2011. According to Pantone Color Institute’s Color Report Fall 2011, designers are also paying close attention to texture and contrast, pairing menswear with feminine twists, warm prints with cool metals, incorporating both old and new influences, and creating an intriguing balance between colors.

“Designers take a painterly approach to fall 2011 by artfully combining bright colors with staple neutrals, reminiscent of how an artist would construct a stunning work of art,” said Leatrice Eiseman, executive director of the Pantone Color Institute, to the press during New York Fashion Week, Feb. 10–17.

Some 10 colors are in the spotlight, including:

Audemars Piguet Launches New Timepieces in the Royal Oak Offshore in Chronographs Lineage “The Perfect Balance of Force”

Hong Kong, July 21, 2011 – World renowned Swiss luxury watchmaker Audemars Piguet launched the new Royal Oak Offshore Chronograph collection at a summer-theme party at Island Shangri-La Hotel’s Waterside Terrace on July 21, 2011 in Hong Kong.

This summer, three new timepieces are joining the prestigious lineage of Royal Oak Offshore chronographs. Case size, design elements and the choice of materials represent a number of subtle touches that are forging a new path on which control meets strength. This new collection comes in a larger case – 44mm and in each of the three versions, the case is composed of two materials. Ceramics is associated with steel for the first, with forged carbon in the second, and with pink gold for the third. Forged carbon is a material borrowed from the field of aeronautics and which the Manufacture Audemars Piguet was the first to introduce into the world of fine watchmaking. The choice of ceramics for the bezel and pushpiece-guards – the part most exposed to shocks and thus to scratches is due to its extreme resistance and hardness.

Mr. David von Gunten, Audemars Piguet CEO of Hong Kong and China commented, “We are excited to unveil the very much awaited new Royal Oak Offshore collection to our collectors this evening. Once again, this new collection embodies the identity of the brand – combining audacity and performance, with the enhanced features such as a larger case and ceramics on the bezel and pushpiece-guards.”

Audemars Piguet collectors and socialites in Hong Kong had a preview of this new collection when models sport the new Royal Oak Offshore chronograph timepieces in Escada Sport and D’URBAN. Guests were treated to the perfect summer party with refreshing canapés served alongside champagne and freshly-made mojito cocktails as they partied to the light-beat music spun by the DJ.

Audemars Piguet is available at Weston Jewelers, located at 1728 Main Street, Weston, Florida. Weston Jewelers is one of the premier Fort Lauderdale jewelers and watch affectionado’s.
